Sunkit stumbled out of the nursery, wind ruffling his fur as he chased a feather he had stolen from the fresh-kill pile. At four moons old, he was getting restless being stuck in camp. There was a whole big, wide world out there and he wanted to see it all, but instead he was stuck here. Stuck in camp. Stuck chasing around feathers instead of hunting birds. He watched as the feather was blown farther away by a particularly strong gust of wind. He ran after it, but quickly lost interest upon realizing that his littermate was nearby doing... something. Sunkit didn't really care much. He just cared that his sibling was about to go down.

He stalked towards his sibling, being as quiet as he could- which wasn't actually very quiet at all. His disproportionately large, clumsy paws didn't do him any favors on that front. Another strong burst of wind slammed into him right as he was about to pounce. He tumbled over, letting out a loud huff of air as his chest hit the ground. Seeing as there was pretty much no way that Fogkit hadn't heard that, Sunkit decided to just sit up. "Hey Froggy!" he purred as he shook the dust from his fur.

Something would translate to watching the ground. The world was full of quiet amazements— Fogkit's most current was how fluidly worms could disappear and reappear from beneath the mud. They'd overturned multiple stones to watch this, and on stone number four they were just as entertained as they had been on the first. Under this one, there had been a worm longer than the rest; a nightcrawler. It had pink-brown skin and was nearly half a tail-length. It slithered as opposed to inching, moving much as how a snake would, and Fogkit was understandably enchanted.

Then, the wind blows, and while it doesn't knock Fogkit over, it's a near thing. Off-balanced, over-balanced, then sitting proper once more, but now with their brother at their side. “Sunkit!” They exclaim. That is greeting enough, “I was just watching— hey!” Their favorite worm was gone! No matter. It was the nature of worms that they came and went. Fogkit would be comforted in the knowledge that their worm was likely still beneath camp somewhere, digging tiny tunnels to help the water drain from the sandy earth.

The other worms just didn't seem as entertaining as the nightcrawler. Fogkit rights the stone they had overturned, using their shoulder to push it. The stone slotted easily into a divot in the ground, shaped just as the stone was. “Anyway, we should do something.” A moment of consideration, and then Fogkit's easy grin turns mischievous, “Maybe you can practice walking and I can cheer you on?” Had Fogkit been walking when such a big gust had blown, they would have likely found their pelt as dusty as Sunkit's. But they hadn't been walking, and hadn't introduced the better part of their front to the ground. Teasing was, in this case, the only real option Fogkit had.

his whiskers twitch, amusement lighting his gaze, as he watches sunkit try to sneak up on fogkit. his stalking is clumsy and far from stealthy, his large paws thumping heavily on the ground. before he's even made it half-way, a strong gust of wind barrels him onto his side, sending clouds of dust floating into the air and onto him. fogkit, too, almost loses balance. but, unlike sunkit, they manage to rebalance themselves before they could dirty up their fur. letting out a small snort of laughter at fogkit's mischievous teasing, jaywhisker pads over to the siblings, his easy smile a rare sight on the deputy. they've grown so much since they were born, and they're only getting bigger... soon, they'd be big enough to become apprentices. "the more you practice, the easier it gets," he quips, voice light with mirth before dipping to a more sincere tone. "if you want some pointers for more successful stalking, i could help you out."

Sunkit tilted his head as he watched his sibling mess with some random rock. What was so interesting about a rock? He didn't really understand Fogkit sometimes. At Fogkit's teasing, Sunkit swatted at their head. "You're such a meanie." All ill was forgotten, however, at the approach of their uncle-figure. "Oh, hi Jaywhisker!" He let out a squeal as Jaywhisker offered to show him some pointers. "Really? Oh wow, that would be super cool! Frog, didja hear that? Jaywhisker's gonna train us!!" The red tabby jumped up and down a few times before excitedly bumping his littermate's shoulder with his own. He couldn't wait.

Fogkit sticks their tongue out at Sunkit. Meanie was hardly a cutting insult, and Fogkit knew that Sunkit didn't mean anything by it. Meanie was Fogkit's signal that they have teased successfully.

Then, Sunkit says oh, hi Jaywhisker! and Fogkit whips their head away from Sunkit to the newly arrived Jaywhisker. “You would really show us?” They cannot hide their excitement from their voice. They wouldn't want to hide their excitement. In an instant, they are on their paws, body low. Their best approximation of a hunting crouch. They move awkwardly on their long limbs, their movements unfluid.

At first, it is that Fogkit is prowling away from Jaywhisker and Sunkit, but then in a flash they turn around and attempt to pounce onto Sunkit. Fogkit falls short, their long limbs splayed out just in front of Sunkit, and their chin meeting the ground. “Oof. I deserved that.” Then, as if they hadn't just fallen, they stand and shake themself off, bouncing in front of Jaywhisker, “So? Did I do good?

Hearing his mentor's voice, the joyful presence of an alabaster devil would soon descend upon the scene. Unsurprisingly his face was decorated with a too-wide grin, his eyes absence of the light of a smile, as he stared unblinkingly upon the two kits. Hawk Song's little gremlins, right? Ah! They had just run out of ankle-biters, so the warrior was to thank for bringing in another healthy dose of free entertainment for Mallowlark. Upon the siblings the large tom let his gaze befall, watching as Fogkit took a tumble, clearly a tough cookie. Some kits would have wailed at that rough landing, but they did not, asking an innocent question that Mallowlark was happy to answer.

"No!" he said cheerily, as if it was not somewhat offensive. "You missed- the fake-out was cool though!" An alabaster brush, his tail swept to and fro, pleased. "When Jaywhisker is done with you- you'll crush your enemies like a berry beneath your paw! Red stuff and all!" His mewling laughter bubble from within him then, a choke at first that soon bubbled into genuine laughter at the funny image, the juxtaposition of fruit-insides versus... well, other insides.

A fit of laughter erupted from Sunkit as his sibling fell flat in front of him. "You goofball! That was only slightly better than my fall!" He nodded at the older cat's- what was his name again?- comment. The fake-out was pretty cool. And he was right! The two of them were gonna be great as soon as they were trained.
Sunkit launched himself at his littermate. His relatively large paws collided with Fogkit's shoulders, the two kits falling to the ground. It was a clumsy pin, but it was a pin nonetheless. He had just opened his mouth to gloat before he was interrupted by his paws slipping off of Fogkit's shoulders, his chin colliding with his sibling's. "Ouch!" the small red tabby exclaimed, climbing off his sibling and rubbing at his sore chin.

fogkit's stalk is ungraceful at best, long limbs stiff and posture awkward. in a flash, they're darting towards sunkit, only to fall flat onto their face with a thump. concern for them grips jaywhisker for a moment, worried that they might've hurt themselves, but then they're back on their paws and bouncing around him. he breathes out, shaking out his pale fur, before fixing fogkit with a more amused look. before he can answer their question about their stalking, mallowlark appears, as gleeful as always. his former apprentice cheerfully announces that fogkit didn't do a good job, and jaywhisker wonders for a split second if he'd fostered that bluntness in him.

most cats would cast odd looks towards mallowlark for his morbidity, but jaywhisker doesn't bat an eye at it any longer. his time spent as mallowlark's mentor has made him accustomed to mallowlark's... eccentricity. underneath those words, he knows that mallowlark is a fine young cat who's fiercely loyal to windclan.

"mallowlark is right- er, about the stalking, i mean," he begins, not wanting to directly encourage crushing enemies like a berry. "you're moving too fast. slow down, and focus on being as silent as possible-" his words are cut off by sunkit, who throws himself at his sibling. they collide together, the former pinning the latter. suddenly, sunkit's paws slip from fogkit's shoulders, resulting in the two hitting chins on each other. jaywhisker's by the two kits in an instant, his previous concern reigniting in his eyes. "are you okay?"

Mallowlark was honest. Fogkit wasn't dumb, they could tell when the grown-ups were encouraging them just because that's what they did, so the chipper "No!" was a welcome surprise. Fogkit did bad, but that was okay, because they would do better next time! Even if they hadn't really been keen on the idea of crushing their enemies under their paws. The thought makes a shutter go down their spine, and they turn to Jaywhisker, “Are you really gonna make me crush my enemies?

Jaywhisker says Mallowlark is right about the stalking— that probably means that he isn't right about the crushing thing. Fogkit is still worried. But then Fogkit is crushed— not by an enemy, but their very own brother. The betrayal! Fogkit bats at Sunkit while they can, but the tussle is short lived, ending in an unceremonious head-collision.

I'm okay!” Fogkit chimes when Jaywhisker asks, pushing themselves up onto their paws. They bat at Sunkit's tail half-heartedly, “My head's made up of strong stuff!
