Since Black Snake had finally been allowed to leave the nursery by himself, he’d been eager to explore everything that the WindClan camp had to offer. There was a cool wall of plants around the camp, and even a big rock to climb on! He just had to be careful not to fall off of it, like that big brown tabby had. That would be truly unfortunate, because what if he hurt his new teeth? He was still getting used to the awkwardly long fangs that had just recently grown in, but he liked them all the same! Sure, they looked like the same fangs that wretched Biting Rat had, but that was their only flaw.

A smile was set on the kit’s face as he pranced through the camp, trying to look cool as he explored. It wasn’t long before he found a small pool of gross-looking brownish water, and his curiosity was piqued. He wondered how bad it would taste if he were to try it. But there was no chance he’d actually drink that stuff! Instead, the tabby took a few steps back, wriggling his rump in preparation for what he was about to do. He took a deep breath and then, when he was ready, charged toward the water. At the last second, he jumped, and—

“No!” The kit yelped as he missed his landing, having obviously misjudged the distance that he needed to jump in order to stay dry. He stumbled as he fell, landing on his chest with a thump in the middle of the water. Thankfully he was unhurt, but his pride was severely wounded as he spat out some water. Yuck. He knew what it tasted like now, and it definitely wasn’t worth falling into the water to find out.

a kitten-sized splash halfway across camp quickly drew the attention of dry rot. as usual bored by the day's lack of excitement, as usual his patience rewarded with something. whether that something was good or not would be decided after he reached the scene of the crime. large paws galloping across flat and open land to a wide, murky puddle. the greys and greens stirred up quite recently by the tall, contrastingly bright face of his littermate.

"
snake yo-you look disgusting." as if responding to his own comment, dry rot's nose crinkled in disgust. long wide snout turning into a shriveled, yet grinning, raisin. dry rot had no idea how long that water had been sitting stagnant in camp, but it was nowhere short of a few days. just the reek alone would be enough to deter any intelligent cat. the brown kitten's smile sunk a little bit, then grew twelve times its original size as he erupted into a fit of coughing laughter.

"
don't te-tell me you jumped in?!" his wheezes interrupted the teasing intermediately as he collapsed on the tiny shoreline. ears quivering in the cruel delight of his brother's miniature disaster. "you're-you're going to stain!"

if anything were to happen to entertain him today, dry rot wouldn't have been able to think up something as genius as this. at this point, rot would consider thanking even rat for producing a brother stupid enough to go swimming in a bath of mud and grime.

He watched silently from his nest, amusement filtering through a layer of guilt in his eyes as he watched his son trot around, looking for trouble. It was good they were getting chances to be kits, it had been proof to himself that they really didn't need him, but... it didn't stop him from wanting to be in their lives. Especially in situations like his one.
He watched as his fiery colored son sent himself sailing straight into the gross water pool in camp, his brow furrowing in mild concern but still he remained on his side of camp, tail flicking anxiously by his side. He would learn now, that was how kits learned, he told himself, he can't come to their rescue at every inconvenience of their lives. And he'd been fine, just watching, if Dry Rot didn't come over and begin laughing at his brother, which made the father of the two quirk his eyebrow and rise to his paws, walking his way over very silently, lowering his head toward Dry's ears as he spoke, "You shouldn't be laughing after you tried to hunt that cotton without looking at it first." His tone was stern, a reminder that he should be nicer to his sibling, it was the only thing they'd have when they were older.
Once finished with Dry Rot, he looked to Black Snake, pausing momentarily before speaking, genuine concern in his voice, "Are you alright?" He wanted to help his son clean up, pick him up, and send him back on his way, but he didn't know. They probably wouldn't want him anyway, knowing that Drowned possibly poisoned their heads with half-truths and nasty comments about him. They were innocent of their mother's hatred though, only punishing himself from being close to them.

He'd been hoping that no one else would come along to see the mistake he'd made; he knew he'd probably be made fun of by anyone who happened to see him fall into the puddle of stagnant water. And to be fair, he wasn't wrong. Dry Rot appeared almost as if he had a sixth sense for Black Snake's embarrassment, collapsing into a fit of laughter and telling him he looked gross. "At least I have an excuse," he muttered teasingly, spitting again to try and get the taste of the nasty water out of his mouth. "Hey, I didn't mean to! I thought I could jump over it!" He huffed somewhat indignantly at the insinuation that he would ever have just jumped in—he would never dirty his beautiful fur like that on purpose!—but he couldn't deny that his predicament was probably a funny sight. And it was his brother, so how could he truly be angry with him?

The next cat to show up was probably the last face Black Snake wanted to see. Side by side, the resemblance between Biting Rat and Dry Rot was obvious, and Black Snake hated that. He wondered whether it pained their poor mother to see him in their faces. With a frown, he got to his feet and shook himself off, spraying small droplets everywhere, before turning to level his father—no, Biting Rat—with the most intimidating look he could muster. It wasn't all that intimidating, especially from a small kit who likely looked like a half-drowned rat, but he was trying. "I'm fine." Why was he pretending to care? Mother said that he was no good, and Black Snake trusted his mother's judgment over his own.

Unaware of the family drama that jumped like an electric current between the three she was limping toward, Berrykit's hazel gaze trailed across the scene. Dripping in peaty water sat- oh, what was his name? She knew it was something not at all befitting of his name, but for the fairly wispy and amenable life lit within her soul she could not remember what it was. For now he's be 'Splashy'- for that was her most recent impression, causing a gigantic splash with a leap of faith. It was amusing- enough to elicit a monotone laugh from Berrykit's half-grin. "Maybe you need a bigger run-up," Berrykit murmured, squinting her eyes. Launching oneself a further distance required a bit of wind-up... so surely if he went for it again he'd have to go bigger, longer... and hopefully right, this time.

his giggling persisted as his brother grasped at a straw to make him cease. with no avail, the kitten rose back up, a sputtering mess as black snake simply stood in the middle of his miniature pond brushing off any possible embrassessment. no, snake wasn't like rot in that way, it was a lesser form of shame even while being actively laughed at by his brother. but then, black snake's expression changed, and dry rot's face fell in confusion. he couldn't have said anything that offensive.

"you shouldn't be laughing after you tried to hunt that cotton without looking at it first."

the voice behind him made his fur immediately stand on end. like a ghost whispering in your ear, the sharpest of chills racing down his spine. the kitten whipped around. his own already brown paw falling within the puddle, but there was no recognition of the slimy wet feeling. only a pure look of fear, eyebrows drew together and eyes wide. it didn't matter if rat was pointing out his own foolish mistake, there was only one thought, run. run far far away, where he can never find you. the black toms tall form hulked over dry rot's much smaller frame, casting the smallest of shadows.

"
i-i-i-i-" he drew in a sharp breath, the world was spinning a little bit, and his stomach was feeling the effects. berrykit had approached them, oblivious to the situation the family currently found themselves in. "i-i-"

it was a moment of panic, fear, and dry rot perhaps acted a bit too quickly for his mind to fully respond. moving backwards another step only to fall backwards in with his brother. the shock of the water woke him up from his daze, with a yowl to compete with snake's. browned water splashed up around him, coating his already dark pelt with a darker sheen. if dry rot wasn't already cursed enough to look like his father, this made sure he felt the full force. the kitten shot up, pushing his wide muzzle over the surface, followed by the rest of his now scrawny looking body.

"
oops."

the silence would kill him.

Skies trotted up to his brother, seeing him wet with a slimey substance but not caring much about the stench around the puddle. He paid no mind to Rat or Berrykit, he honestly couldn't care less- he glanced from Snake to Rot, then lightly brushed his fur against his brother's wet pelt in an attempt at comfort. "Y-You smell terrible," he said with a forced giggle, putting on a faux confidence in front of his- in front of his father, because he could see Dry's humiliation and the fear in his eyes.

He attempted to keep a level gaze, absent of emotion, though it was difficult for a kitten to not let things show. He looked at his siblings again, smile growing wider even though it was so obviously plastered onto his face that he himself wasn't convinced. "Mom's gonna kill you two if she has to clean you up," he joked, but even saying that in front of Biting Rat felt like betrayal, and he avoided eye contact as furiously as he could.

He would be usually the one making the stupid mistakes- but a part of him wanted to blame the tomcat who was standing there, looking like an older version of Dry Rot. He wanted to blame him for the embarrassment and the fear and the hostility- he didn't hold any of those, really, he was neither Snake's aggression nor Rot's terror, but trying to ignore everything going wrong while feeling his heart tremble in his chest.

"Maybe I should throw you in clean water now, mousebrains. If you come back to the nursery and even touch my nest in this state I'm gonna give you a paw to the head," he continued rambling on, keeping up the cocky attitude he'd usually have around his family but feeling frantically uneasy presenting like this in front of others.

"There was plenty enough space to go around.." The solid grey tom would drawl with a clearly confused expression, his white-toed paws halting just before the scene. He'd take a small flinch back as another took a tumble in the water, why? His gaze would shift to Berry, giving her a look as if to say 'Don't encourage this' before his sights would draw to the ebony tom with protruding fangs. There was resemblance from the toms present to him so he figured those were his problem to deal with, even if the other kits paid no heed to the older. "The nursery is going to smell like wet fur now." Eagle would mumble.

To his shock, shortly after Black Snake's tense reply, Dry Rot tumbled in with his brother after some seemingly fearful response. Instantly, his stern look changed to panic as he stepped forward, fumbling, "Oh! S-stars are you okay?" He didn't mean to frighten him, he just wanted to point out how hypocritical him laughing was, and instead, he made the situation worse. Dark Skies only made his pelt prickle worse and as more kits gathered, Rat worried it'd become a huge scene, something he didn't need Drowned Visions knowing about. Quickly, he looked around, checking to make sure Drowned wasn't around, before he leaned forward swiftly and gently attempted to pick up Dry Rot by his scruff, placing him down between his paws if successful and rasping his tongue over his brown fur backwards, muttering between licks, "I am so sorry, please do not tell your mother." It was strange, the fact he was actually doing something for his kit after so long of not... being there? It was like a wound was being salted and healed at the same time, something he most desperately wanted but at the same time he was kicking himself for. He told himself he wouldn't do this, he wouldn't confuse the kits while they were so young, yet here he was, trying to force himself into it all.

there were too many cats, too many eyes boring into the side of his pelt. he could feel them, even glaring through foggy eyes of swampy water. dry rot's heart felt the full force of his anxiety, trying to burst from his chest. too many voices, too many circling around a scene that had temporarily provided him reprive. any joy that the kitten was feeling had seeped from his face, eyes glossy and pipes threatening to burst. even with dark skies perched above him, trying so hard to distract the trio. pushing out his chest, jokingly criticizing them for their messy mistakes. the words didn't really make sense to dry rot, it was like everyone was speaking in some sort of foreign language.

the more paws that gathered by the puddle, the more his body swayed. the ground wasn't stable enough, and no matter how much his claws dug at the mud, they refused to anchor him. that's when the kitten felt it, his body lifting from the water. dry rot allowed himself one last thought before fully exiting the stinking body of water.

thank starclan, i'm finally dead.

if only. the gentle grooming was a second waking shock, and his body immediately began thrashing out.

"i am so sorry, please do not tell your mother."

mother, oh no, oh no. this day surely could not get worse. his father perched above him, a caring stance, grooming his son, and yet. dry rot's body didn't stop moving, and his claws finally found their footing on solid ground. he couldn't even feel anymore, cold and numb. eaglekit's approach and shallow comments bounced around in his skull, leaving without even having a chance to be processed. this was wrong, this wasn't supposed to happen. this didn't make any sense and he couldn't understand why it was happening to him.

"
G-G-G-GO GO AW-AWAY!" the kitten pulled himself away, a quick and ragged motion as he pulled up beside dark skies. cowering behind his tall brother, shivering and shaking like a storm was breaking on the horizon. his green eyes shot back to the pool, begging and pleading for snake to join them, away from these eyes, away from the danger. dry rot wanted to escape, yet he found his legs too tired to run. leaning and pleading his brother for emotional and physical support.

the greatest shame. eaglekit and berrykit, his peers, watching in confusion as three kittens panicked in their own unique ways. dry rot wanted to disappear, never to be seen again.

Black Snake would look up at Berrykit curiously, tilting his head as the odd-jawed calico suggested a bigger run-up. That was a good idea, he agreed, so maybe he’d have to try the jump again sometime later, and maybe then they wouldn’t laugh at him. But for now, he had larger problems to deal with—upon noticing Biting Rat’s approach, Dry Rot scrambled back, falling into the water alongside Black Snake. The cream tabby was quick to make sure that Dry Rot wasn’t injured or otherwise harmed, but the only thing that seemed wrong with him was embarrassment. Snake considered poking fun at him about karma, but given his brother’s sorry state, he figured that it would be easier to just move on from the situation.

Thankfully, Dark Skies appeared to tease them soon after, and Snake would shoot him a grin in return. ”I’m gonna make your nest stink so bad,” he threatened jokingly, wrinkling his nose at his black-and-white brother. He was about to make another half-serious joke, when another unfamiliar kit trotted over to the group. He had pretty gray fur, which was the first thing that Snake noticed, but his expression spoke of confusion at the scene that laid before him. That was understandable, he supposed.

Before anything else happened, Biting Rat was picking up his brother and beginning to groom him, as if it was a totally normal thing to do. Immediately Black Snake stepped toward them, claws out and fur bristling. ”Hey! Leave him alone!” The kit practically snarled at the older tom, though halfway-drenched in water he was well aware that he wasn’t the most intimidating figure. Dry Rot quickly scrambled away to stand beside Dark Skies, discomfort evident in his body language, and Black Snake hurried over to them before turning back to face Biting Rat. ”I’ll—I’ll bite you!” A small, high-pitched hiss left his mouth, sharp canines bared at the male with nearly identical fangs. Rage flooded his expression, but he felt so helpless. The other two kits here likely didn’t understand the family’s drama, so they probably wouldn’t be much help. What could he do? He found himself wishing that his mother were here, wondering where she was and whether she would come rescue them from this situation.

The kits had been old enough to let themselves wonder camp finally. This gave the large Molly a chance to stretch her legs and sink her teeth and claws into something other than moss and heather bedding. The mostly white calico woman would be on her way back to camp while the scene here was unfolding, so she was unaware of what had happened.
All she knew was that when she turned the corner she saw Biting Rat standing over HER children, Dry Rot running behind Dark Skies in fear, and her only non tainted furred son stating he'd bite the warrior. She tried her best to keep this man away and frankly it was easy because he kept his distance. But seeing her children in fear if this man... It brought on the mother bear in her.
From her spot at the entrance, the kits could see the rage bubbling within her. With long and forceful strides, she closed the gap. Now standing between the children and their father, she got up into Biting Rat's face, looking down on him with furious and ferocious eyes, she'd give out the meanest and scariest hiss they'd hear.
"Step. Away. Before. You. Loose. An. Eye." She snarled at Biting Rat

It went from one moment Rat was trying to actually do something for his kits to the next being absolute chaos. First, Dry Rot panicked in his paws, screeching like he was being murdered and ripping away, his claws knicking against his paws and scratching him. Rat looked shocked at his paw, thin little rivulets of red soaking into his fur on his paw, blinking almost like he couldn't believe it, before looking at his children, cowering basically from him, Black Snake threatening him as well as he could, and Rat... struggled to piece it together, his features confused and concerned, opening his mouth as he set down the scratched paw to try and speak to the kits when his entire vision was consumed by white with the snarl of a fox in his oversized, pricked ears tickling the sensitive fur, making him freeze. Step. Away. Before. You. Loose. An. Eye. Drowned Visions.

The black tom looked at her, all concern and confusion gone from his face as he stared at her. Her claws were out, so his slid out in response, fur instantly erupting into a bristle as he stood his ground against her, unafraid as the other threatened him. His voice was calm, calculated as it slid past grit teeth, "We're in the middle of camp. I don't think that'd be wise to do infront of the multitude of kits and earshot of Brightstar's den." Even so, his tail lashed, muscles ready incase she went ahead and tried to hit him, meeting her gaze stubbornly. She was larger, much stronger probably then him, he'd be screwed in any situation against her and he could only hope she wouldn't risk a fight in the center of camp, that they would both leave this situation without losing their cool.

Jinx had been contently watching from her place under the shade of tall rock until Drowned Visions showed up with her threats. Jinx wasn't in favor of the calico, she held her head way too high, thought too highly of herself in Jinx's eyes. Nonchalantly the tabby stretched and got to her paws, making her way to the tensed group as casually as she could, they didn't need a brawl in camp right now. "Hey Rat" she called out, coming to his side but only making eye contact with him, paying no mind to the bristling she-cat in front of them, "still want me to show you those hunting techniques?" She then asked, a flash in her eyes signaling for the ebony tom to go with it, they weren't friends, but Jinx could tell by the way his muscles were bunched it'd probably best to get him out of the situation without making a fuss.

Dark Skies scoffed at Eaglekit's comments, but only for his brothers- not seeing much of a goal in continuing the teasing game, when the only thing he wanted was to get away from the situation, from Biting Rat, from everything that made him feel like he was being cornered by a badger with nowhere to run. His father then proceeded to attempt to grab his brother by the scruff- Skies froze with an expression of terror on his face, anger sparking up in his eyes. Didn't he see Dry was afraid? Was he stupid? Did he not see he was making things worse, just leave them alone-

His inquiry to not tell their mother was left ignored by him, because as much as he wasn't a snitch, he wasn't going to stop his brothers from seeking comfort. He would prefer to give that to them himself, but whether from fury or from fear, perhaps a little bit of both, he was already shaking.

To Dark who hadn't even thought about his father trying to talk to them before, who had no idea what was happening to his family in the slightest- he was confused, and sometimes he simply wished Rat wasn't there so everything could be simple. Not simple again, because as far as he knew, it never had been- but he refused to accept this as norm when people the likes of Eaglekit were happy with two parents who cared about each other and their kits, no complications.

But life wasn't simple, not for him anyway. And being pitiful wouldn't make it better, either, so all he could do was try live with it or fight back. He didn't know how to do the latter, so he stuck with the former.

His brother cowered behind him, and Dark Skies forced a scowl, though it felt bad putting on a show with people watching. The panic sank into his bones, further than any cold water could.

His brother's threats were enough to worsen the conflict, so Skies remained silent. Snake wasn't going to bite their father - at least he hoped so, with Berrykit and Eaglekit right there - but the threat was there, and it made something within Dark Skies trash with a sickening strength.

He felt so, so stupid - a total of three kits standing down a warrior, one having nothing short of an attack while the other spat vague warnings.

His mother arriving was a relief. She was there to sort things out, and even if she only poured fuel into the fire, at least it wasn't so awfully awkward anymore. At least the anger was centered. At least he could finally see Biting Rat the way he was taught to believe he was, a threat, somene careless and cruel who left them and didn't want them back. The empathy that had been subconsciously created by the familial bond had dissolved by then, nothing else beating at the walls or whisperning traitorous thoughts. It stopped flailing. His mind was quiet, finally. He thought he liked it better that way.

He gazed him down, more coldly than anything, reassured by Visions' presence. His eyes said, careful with what you do. You touch her and I'll never forgive you. Give me a reason to hate you, I dare you.

Jinx came in to break through the tension which seemed to be so thick in the air one could cut through it- Skies appreciated it, anyway, and he said with little to no emotion in his voice, ripping his eyes away from the arguing warriors, "let's go, Rot, Snake, alright?"

Almost black voids of pure hatred were starting into hazel eyes of resentment and anger. She was much bigger than him. Taller than him. And most likely knew how to fight better than him. If given the chance she'd sink her fangs into him.
Her single black front paw inches closer to the dark tom, about to snap her jaws onto his muzzle, but then a feline had came up and locked eyes with the "deadbeat" father of her children. A little bit of relief rushed her body, causing her fur to lie a bit flatter. No acknowledgement was given to her or her offspring, so seeing this as a chance to slip away, she'd take it.
With an overly sassy flick of her tail, she would hope it would just barely hit the two cats that were on her opposing side. Looking down at her children, she was disgusted. They were shaking in their skin. Pitiful. Disgraceful.... Potential. A gentle face appeared on the large mother as she bent down to her children, ignoring their conversation between eachother.
"How about we all go for a swim? Hmm? The weather is nice outside. Plus, I can tell you guys some fun stories!" She'd peer back at Rat and Jinx, giving them a smirk before turning back to her children with a soft smile. She'd whisper to them so only they could hear, "He can't hurt you my children. I'm here now."

Perhaps he had chosen a bad time to enter camp, grayed hare trapped in powerful jaws as molten eyes of hellish fire raked briefly across the clearing. There, before him, in the shadow of the tall rock that jutted high over the clearing, Biting Rat and a group of kits, Jinx's welcome form, but another she-cat with bristling fur, a vision of burning rage that was settled upon Biting Rat's smaller form. It wasn't his business, the hulking brute would be wise to move past the ruckus, after all, it seemed to be dying down now, but the spitting words of Drowned Visions cut into Bear Tooth's wicked mind like a razor tipped thorn, and he felt an angry scowl wrap across his mangled features. Biting Rat had been struggling recently, he knew, and it likely didn't help that Bear Tooth had been keeping to himself as of late, his spite toward the stars, toward WindClan's leadership, filling his heart with a cold void.

Perhaps he was done living in the background, and with Biting Rat one of his few remaining friends, the titan had no intentions of letting him suffer alone any longer.

Huge paws pressed roughly against the warm earth as the hare dropped unceremoniously from torn and scarred jaws. Bear Tooth came to stand at Biting Rat's side, his massive frame bristling in support. He hardly knew Drowned Visions, or the little kits that now ran about as her spawn, but he could already tell that he wasn't going to be very fond of the mother. The youths had plenty of room to grow into something worthwhile, but their mother? "Begone, wretched thing." Bear Tooth uttered lowly toward the large she-cat, his thunderous vocals dripping venomously past lethal teeth. Yes, let them go for a swim, far from this place. Biting Rat might not appreciate the defensive gesture, but Bear Tooth was used to taking on heat for the problems of others. He didn't care, he was there to support his friend, no matter the consequences.

"Better that the kits do not witness bloodshed on this day." It was a cold warning, as the hulking tabby's talons slid past their sheathes to prick against the heated soil without a sound.

The massive molly, in comparison to all the other non Maine Coon she cats, perked her ears as venom dropped behind her. All she could do was laugh and turn her gaze ever so slightly to where Bear Tooth could barely see her face. Her nearly black eyes void of anything. So fear nor reaction came from her. She wasn't one to easily be ticked off unless it was from that of Biting Rat.
She simply chuckled. "Those are some strong words when you don't know the situation, Sir." She said in a half sweet half threatening way.
As so her kits wouldn't hear her words, she stepped closer to the just as large Tom to whisper to him. "Maybe if you knew he came to me one night seeking comfort, me thinking he was wanting something more than... You know... When he found out I was with his kits he threw all care out the window and refused to see his children. Until now. Look at how terrified they are of him! Maybe it'd be best you keep your deadbeat friend out of their lives. They clearly don't want him in it." She stated quickly before sulking back to her children with the stance of a lioness who has protected her cubs successfully. Now turning to Biting Rat, Jinx, and Bear Tooth once more, she'd meow. "We may all live in the same place, but don't come near my children. If they want you in their lives they will come to you. Don't FORCE yourself into another situation." That last part was directed at the lanky black furred vampire. The Sire of her offspring.
She didn't wait for any replies to the things stated, she simply picked up her quivering child and herded the others towards the camp entrance, hoping they'd all comply.

(Gonna create the private thread with the kittens now. Takes place right after this thread. If anyone else wants more interactions with DV just lmk. Removing her now bc I don't want her to attack anyone yet lol)
